Otovent consists of a nose piece and nasal balloon which is blown up by the patient with their nose. The act of blowing up the balloon helps to open the eustachian tube, making is easier for fluid to drain from the middle ear. A large multi-centre study in Southampton in 2015 found that a statistically significant number of children resolved their symptoms using Otovent in comparison to children receiving standard care alone. They also saw an increase in quality of life scores in the treated group. We have seen similarly effective results in adults suffering from muffled hearing a a feeling of fullness in the ear and other eustachian tube dysfunction symptoms
