Productive general practice: real-world operational improvements for delivering 'modern general practice' from 100 practice visits

25 Feb 2026
Business Services Hub
Excellence in everyday practice People, leadership and resilience Innovation that works

General practice is under unprecedented pressure to deliver safe, high quality, accessible and sustainable care while adapting to the expectations of ‘modern general practice’. This session draws on learning from over 100 primary care support visits delivered by two of the SEL Training Hub GPs, combining system perspective with front-line operational experience. Using insights from delivering the Supporting Level Framework (SLF), a tailored change management programme (PDP) and bespoke practice-level support, the presenters will share common operational challenges encountered across practices and the practical solutions that made a measurable difference.
Designed for both clinical and non-clinical practice leaders, this engaging session will provide actionable learning and transferable principles to support change as you move towards 'productive general practice'.

  • Identify common operational challenges faced by GP practices when implementing modern general practice models
  • Participants will leave with a clearer understanding of how structured, relationship-based support and pragmatic change management can help practices deliver the ambitions of modern general practice in a realistic and achievable way.
  • Understand practical interventions that improve productivity in real-world settings
  • Recognise the role of leadership behaviours and team engagement in successful change management
  • Apply transferable principles from tailored primary care support visits to their own practice context
